Florida Governor RON DeSantis is spearheading a state-level "AI Bill of Rights" to safeguard privacy and protect children from potential harms posed by artificial intelligence. During his final State of the State address on January 13, 2026, DeSantis warned that unchecked AI advancement could "displace human beings as the central players on Earth's stage."

The MOVE directly counters President Donald Trump's executive order from December 2025, which seeks to remove regulatory barriers for Big Tech companies and maintain U.S. competitiveness against China in AI development. DeSantis is particularly focused on regulating "hyperscale" data centers, citing concerns over their environmental impact and potential to drive up utility costs for residents.

This political clash highlights growing tensions between federal tech policy and state-level consumer protections. Florida's proposed legislation WOULD position the state as having some of the strictest AI regulations in the nation, with special attention to chatbot interactions with minors.
